ASSISTANT CHIEF VETERINARY OFFICER (D4)
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the above position in the Veterinary Department at Head Office. The incumbent will report to the Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO).
Duties (Responsibilities)
- Spearheading relevant research work in wildlife health, captive breeding, wildlife production and veterinary issue,
- He/she will be part of management staff and will also be responsible for all administrative work, assisting in recruitment, training and supervision of staff members,
- Responsible for pre-export and import veterinary prerequisite procedures and for all veterinary permits required by the ZimParks,
- Treating and performing surgical procedures to all reported or identified sick or injured wild animals/dogs,
- Preventing predictable diseases outbreak using best veterinary methods and resources available,
- Supervising and overseeing all the wild animals capture exercises,
- Diseases surveillance of wild animals/relevant domestic animals in collaboration with Department of Veterinary Services (DVS),
- Guiding the procurement department on drugs and equipment required for the unit,
- Representing ZimParks on meetings where wildlife, veterinary issues and zoonotic (animal diseases affecting humans) are dealt with both within and outside the country e.g. Trans-frontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs),
- Assisting with technical expertise on commercial activities in collaboration with business development unit e.g. crocodile and ostrich ranching production, FMD free buffalo breeding,
- Carrying out other services/duties which may be assigned to him/her by the Director General through the C.V.O.
Qualifications
- At least a Bachelor of Veterinary degree,
- Registered with the Zimbabwe Veterinary Council,
- Masters or PHD is an added advantage.
Experience, Special skills and Personality Required:
- A research oriented individual with laboratory know how.
