Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the above position on a 6 months’ contract in the Commercial Division of the Authority. The incumbent will report to the Deputy Director General – Commercial.

 Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advising on the location of profitable deposits of minerals, precious stones and semi-precious stones, gas, oil, and other valuable mineral resources within the Parks estate.
  • Assisting the Authority in estimating the probable quantities of the minerals and define their value and how best they can be extracted using the best possible environmentally friendly methods.
  • Training Parks on key aspects of mining operations to selected personnel in areas where mining is conducted.
  • Putting in place systems for checking and authenticating licensing documentation on all mining activities operating within the Parks estate.
  • Analysing mining applications and recommending those to be considered for approval.
  • Advising the Authority on best ways of enforcing rehabilitation of worked mining areas.
  • Ensure on the proper management and accountability of the Authority’s mineral resources
  • Advising the Authority on best ways of getting value from mineral resources
  • Assisting the Authority in drafting a mining policy and initiating legislation and regulation changes where necessary.
  • Preparing mining related reports as required by management
  • Advising the Authority on monitoring of mining operations within the Parks estate
  • To carry out any other issues related and not related to mining as required by management.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required

  • At least a diploma/degree in mining and geological studies or other equivalent qualification from a recognised institution of higher learning.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in mining regulation and administration
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Mapping techniques.
